Chronic tendinopathies using extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT)

Shockwave therapy involves the application of short, frequent and high intensity bursts of mechanical energy into soft tissue that is inflamed, painful, injured, scared or contains adhesions. Some Benefits of Shockwave Therapy include: Increased blood flow, improved healing response, breakdown scar tissue and adhesions, reduce muscle spasm, decrease pain.

Shockwave therapy can treat chronic tendinopathies such as: Tennis and golfers elbow, plantar fasciitis, patellar tendonitis (knee pain), achilles tendonitis, heel pain, shoulder pain (rotator cuff injuries), ITB syndrome, calcified tendons as well as myofascial trigger points in muscles (muscular aches and pains). We use the Swiss Dolorclast Smart 20 Shockwave Therapy machine.

Neck Pain

Neck pain is a very common issue. Neck pain, although felt in the neck, can be caused by numerous other spinal problems. Neck pain may arise due to muscular tightness in both the neck and upper back. Muscles can be strained by poor posture, whether it’s leaning into your computer at work or hunching over your workbench at home. Joint tightness in the neck may create pain both in the neck and/or upper back.

Back Pain

Back pain is a common problem that affects most people at some point in their lives. Back pain originates from joints, bones, muscles, nerves and other structures in the spine.
Back pain may have a sudden onset or can be chronic in nature. It can be constant or intermittent, it can stay in one place or can radiate to other areas. It may be a dull ache, or a sharp, piercing or burning sensation. The pain may radiate into the arms and hands as well as the legs or feet and may include symptoms other than pain.
These symptoms may include tingling, weakness or numbness.
Chiropractic provides a long-term, successful solution for sufferers of back-pain. It is recognized as the most physically and cost-effective treatment for back pain.

Headaches

A common form of headache is a cervicogenic headache. This is a headache, which originates in the neck but presents as a headache. Cervicogenic, tension and cluster headaches are treated very successfully with chiropractic treatment as chiropractic targets the cause of the pain, not just the pain itself.

Pregnancy-associated pain or discomfort

As a woman’s pregnancy progresses, her body undergoes a number of changes. As the baby grows there is an increase in weight and an increase in flexibility of the supporting tissues of the spine due to hormonal changes. The combination of these factors very often results in back pain. In fact research has shown that more than 50% of women complain of lower back pain during pregnancy with the joints of the pelvis most often affected. Chiropractic provides a safe and drug free approach to managing these complaints, allowing a more comfortable pregnancy and delivery.

Work & sport-related injuries

Chiropractic provides a conservative, drug-free approach to the management and prevention of sports injuries. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to increase the range of motion of restricted joints and assist in returning joints to their normal mobility and functionality. With additional soft tissue techniques used on supportive tissues such as muscles, ligaments and tendons, chiropractic ensures a faster and more effective recovery after a sporting injury. Athletic performance has been shown to increase post chiropractic treatment.

Numbness & tingling in the arms or legs

Pain relief associated with conditions, such as sciatica

Paediatric conditions

Paediatric conditions such as infantile colic; sleepless baby; latching difficulties in infants;; irritable baby; neck and back pain in children; scoliosis in the child and young adult.
Many would not associate a need for chiropractic with babies; however, abnormal positioning in the uterus or a stressful delivery may result in minor spinal problems in the newborn. This may lead to irritability, colic, difficulty feeding and sleeping. It is therefore recommended to have your child assessed by a chiropractor as soon as possible after birth.
Chiropractic treatments on a baby differ greatly from those used on an adult and they include light fingertip pressure and massage techniques.
